Well, yesterday I found a few nibbled leaves, and then I found a snail nestled in the pot on one of my orchids. So I sent it flying across the yard. Today, I find more nibbled leaves and a snail nestled in the exact same pot as yesterday! So again it went flying, although maybe a little further. I do regret not marking that critter with the nail polish my dd was playing with, so I could know for sure it was the same one, since it was about the same size.
I hate snails, too! I have a very sneaky one in my orchid house right now. I can't find him any where! But there is damage, so he's somewhere. I know my neighbor must think I am crazy for going out in the middle of the night with my flashlight ... I hate to squish them so I throw them in the lake and let the fish have escargot for dinner!
It's been raining a bit lately, the other day my dd and I were counting snails, and found 10 baby snails, 10 mid size and a few large. So yea, it could have been another one of the same size. I moved all the pots inside for a little bit, and I'm going to put some crushed eggshells in the pots. I've heard they find that annoying.

I did a little experiment and tossed a snail into my bird bath. He would pop his head out of the water ever so often for air and managed to wriggle around till he got a grip on the edge and then crawled out. Those guys have the reputation for being slow but they can really move when motivated. My latest solution to control these "Stinkers" is to toss them in the toilet and give them a little flush. That will teach them to mess with my Chids!
