Thanks .I wonder though since some orchids grow in the wild,in your area, why wouldn't you be able to at least have some of thos on your trees. By the way just to clarify, the ones on the link entitled Bob Hatos'Orchids, are his not mine. I only wish.

Pretty orchid on the Mango tree.. but the ones I found on my mango tree when we were trimming were not put there by me but found there at the top of the tree,, the branches way to the top had these orchid plants and I took them off the branch before carting away the branches and planted them and now they bloom all year round. They look like dens though ....one is a pale yellow almost cream with a hint of pink centre and the flower looks almost wax like ,, after flowering some green buds appear at the end of the spike,, the other one is a small pink flower and the same thing happens with the green buds at the end of each flower spike.. the latter is a single flower....
Looking at your flickr photos and they look just like your wild orchids pics...
Nice photos and ooh so many lovely shots of Vandas.. thanks for sharing...

Im glad you guys enjoyed Bob's orchids. He's actually got some of those registered, his own hybrids, with the orchid registry in ....Australia is it?
Trinimom, Im not surprised that you didn't plant the orchid up there. When I look at all the orchids in the wild and after researching their origin, Im surprised that there aren't more dicoveries around like yours.
I now look at a lot of trees differently. Wondering if some orchid seed didn't land in just the right spot, of just the right tree, facing just the right direction, carried over by winds, maybe of a hurricane?

I planted one Avocado and one Mango tree about 5 weeks ago and they're really beginning to grow (almost 1'). Hopefully they'll be producing fruit and be large enough to house some chids in a few years. I'd love to mount the chids directly to the trees but will probably mount them on another medium and suspend them from the trees. That way if the temps. drop I can bring them indoors.

Spectacular looking Vandas. I've been looking for some bare root Semi-Terete beauties to mount to my palm trees but haven't had any luck.

Sue there is a way .I mounted orchids on a big plank / log of wood and hang it on a branch of mango tree. just to grow it. When there is temperature drop
can be trancefered to your pool area.
Some people hang their wooden baskets on trees too.

All of my wooden Vanda basket are hanging from the branches of the avocato tree. The rest of the plants are confortably shaded by the tree's thick foliage however it allows them to get a good amount of sun. And they love it!!!
