Well, we finally had a couple days of good, hard rain! And now it is beautiful. Only in the 80's! This will probably be the last "cool" weather we will see this year. Hope everyone enjoyed the weather on Memorial Day. I sure did! My orchids and staghorns seem to be getting used to the sudden summer heat and I am not as worried about them any more. My staghorns were losing leaves daily for a while there. Another vanda and a few dens are blooming. I have moved a few delicate plants inside for the summer. Only 6 months unitl it cools off again!

We've been running in the high 80's and low to mid 90's here in NE FL for the past several weeks, with very little rain, just a few light sprinkles and one or two thunderstorm downpours. My plants are showing some signs of heat damage. I'm growing some intermediate species from Andy's Orchids on a Stick, a Catasetum hybrid from Sunset Valley Orchids, and warmth tolerant Masdevallia hybrids from Ivan Komoda in Mauii, Hawaii. One of the Masdevallias has had 6 flowerings since January, with flowering lasting up to 3-4 weeks, and it has 2 flowers currently open for about two weeks.

We have hot weather in the low 90's coming over the next week or so, with a good chance of rain next Monday.

I feel for you orchid growers in So. Fla. Guess you must have an evaporative cooler in your G/H. I live in SW Ga. with a poly g/h and shade cover, 20" fan 24/7 and an open side curtain w/screen and my g/h has registered 105 to 110 for the past couple of days. I just water more frequently but orchids are doing fine and putting on more growth than normal.
