This is the coolest spring/summer we've had since I moved here in 1985.

I decided to do what I didn't want to...to turn on the AC all night in one of my growing rooms.
Temps are now consistently over 36ºC (97 F) and frequently 40ºC (104 F) and humidity around, or lower, 20%.
Usually what saves the situation are night temps almost always between 16 and 19ºC (61 to 66 F) and HR near 80% but in the last days and the next we have 22ºC (72 F) at night with HR around 60%.
I have been watering twice a day some of my plants (Laelia anceps, for ex) that are under full sun most of the day and inside almost all of them as the humidity is too low.
A lot of work, as you can see.
P.S. - I'm really tempted to use SI units when mentioning temperatures. It's annoying to have to convert it everytime.

My gut says ctsm hybrids should be fine, as long as the roots stay constantly wet. If they could get an early morning and late afternoon "shower", I would be pretty confident they'd be fine.
Generally speaking, this genus loves the heat.

No problem here! By this time, people in the US (at least orchid people) should be pretty comfortable with SI units... this being the only part of of the planet where they aren't standard. <sigh> If anybody in the US wants to convert units, google the various converters or haul out the calculator... I'd be happy to supply formulas to anybody who wants them.

A difference of five degrees C is the same as 9 degrees F. Water freezes at 0C or 32 F. So 5C is 9 F above freezing, or 41 F.
The derivation helps jog your memory:
Freezing 0C 32 F
Boiling 100C 212 F
Distance freezing to boiling 100C 180 F
Difference of 100 C = difference of 180 F
100/180 = 10/18 = 5/9.
You can also have a plain text file in one-degree increments, C in one column and F in another.

Yup... I post in Fahrenheit and if someone posts in Celsius I do the converting. Only seems fair. When I'm on OB, I always have a C-F converter pulled up on another screen.
And have an Excel sheet in one degree increments from C to F. No worries here... post what suits ya!

Thanks for the shortcut, ES.
As I like to be sure that people understand what I'm writing (and keep reading), I always convert it. But I must confess...it's not fun!
BTW, now it's 23:00 and outside temp is 30ºC and HR=37%. During the day, max temp was 42ºC and HRmin=17%.
ES, not the same as Phoenix, but similar, no?
Iwill be away for the weekend and I am watering everything...again.

I don't see a lot of reason to convert units... just specify what they are. (On the US side, doing the conversion is useful because the more often one sees the comparison, the more the sense of "how hot", "how big" become intuitive... just in case we ever get in step with the rest of the world, or travel. But we're the only ones who should be doing the work.)

Learn by practice...that's a good strategy. Not so confortable for the US side, but really useful in the long run.
