Default VERY IMPORTANT -2010 OSA Show

I regret to announce that Orchids Limited will not be attending our 2010 show at the OSA, Orchid Fair, due to delays in obtaining CITES permits. If you pre-ordered plants from OL for the show, they will be shipped to you later this spring when Jason Fischer comes to Canada. When I learn more details about this, I will post them here and on the website.

There have also been some more changes with our speaker line-up for the show. Please download the updated schedule on the website under "Free Public Seminars" to see the changes.

Thank you.

Default Update

As I pre-ordered plants from OL myself, I received an email this morning that was addressed to everyone who pre-ordered stating that shipping will be free due to the circumstances. It also stated that you will have the option of simply being refunded for your order. I am assuming that everyone who pre-ordered will have received this email by now, so if you haven't heard anything, I would recommend you contact OL.

For the record, I am very, very disappointed about this!

Joe,

I'm in a different part of the world, and didn't have an order, but I feel your pain. CITES gets in the way of legitimate ex situ conservation efforts like hobbyist orchid growing. Too much red tape, not enough pragmatism.

I agree. I didn't want to say it, but this is yet another example of CITES making it more difficult for people to enjoy orchids. I could do some real trash-talking here... but I will say only this: there are better ways to promote conservation than to make it near-impossible for people to buy ART-PROP material.

Not only do we miss out on our pre-orders (at least for now), and any other plants Jason was bringing, we miss out on his presentation, and what I'm sure would have been an outstanding display. What a shame. Well, better luck next year!

Hey Joe, that's too bad you guys won't get your orders till Spring. I heard about the bad news yesterday when I was at the nursery to get some hangers. He was really bummed about not being there this weekend. He thought it probably had something to do with the crazy snow storm in Washington causing things to be delayed. No worries! Spring's just around the corner. Kind of.

Just curious... but... do these guys have open-air offices, so that if it snowing or raining they cannot work? Otherwise, I cannot understand why the burocracy of some office works could be explained due to sturms in Timbuktuk...

and yes, I feel the pain of not getting plants at the planed date, due to this kind of delays, but as already mentioned, spring is just at the corner (sort of) and the guys from OL have always been very reliable (at least for me!)... they will ensure the plants arrive safely later on...

Thanks for the sympathy guys...it's unfortunate, but no one blames OL, of course. We just hope they can make it here next year!

You never know when spring is going to land around these parts... it could be April, it could be July. Last year it froze a couple nights in June, and then suddenly it was 30C out, and soon after that the town was torn apart by a near-tornadic storm!
