Default Pink Lady's-slipper

On my recent trip to The 'Dacks, the grounds with the cottage where I stayed had these growing just outside the door. There were a total of about 5. Plenty more in the actual woods both near and far.
I'll tell you, there is nothing in the world like stepping outside of your cottage and the first thing you smell are pines, the first thing you hear are singing Blackburnian Warblers, the first thing you feel is cool humidity and the first thing you see are wild orchids. Too bad I couldn't taste anything.

Sounds like a beautiful experience, but you need to educate yourself. I guarantee something tasty was growing nearby!

I never did take the time to learn about edibles.

I bet you can find copies of Euell Gibbons' books in used book stores. From the 1970s but I doubt they've been improved upon.
