Need help with orchid project
My name is Jim Miller. My father was friends with Raleigh Burney back in the 1960s and he took us out to the Everglades on a few orchid spotting trips, after which my father (who just passed away recently) would take me out to locations given to him by Mr. Burney (hope I'm spelling the name correctly). Fast forward to 2015. I am working on a project (which, for a number of reasons I cannot discuss here, but it has nothing to do with removing a single orchid) and I need to find someone who is familiar with any remaining stands of orchids. In 2012 I visited a number of "hot spots" my dad and I hit in the '60s and '70s but there were no orchids to be found. I am hoping someone will be kind enough to offer to act as my guide (paid, of course) in hopes of seeing at least some of the plants I remember and relive my most cherished memories of growing up in south Florida. I sincerely hope someone can help me here. I cannot tell you just how important this is to me and thank you in advance for reading this and hopefully helping.
Most sincerely,
Jim Miller

Do you know what areas? Perhaps you can approach the OS of the area in question.

We do have members from Florida that might be able to help you out.
One is flhiker (Dave) who used to post pics and videos of his excersions, but I haven't noticed him on here for quite awhile.
Another is prem. this is his blog site.
Florida's Native and Naturalized Orchids - Main Page.
You might try PM'ing them or contact prem thru his blog as it's still active.
Good Luck in your quest!

You could try contacting the Friends of Fakahatchee Strand. The park has guided tours of the wild orchids in the park. Unfortunately they've had to cut back the tours because they found that any areas they included on the tours would eventually be vandalized and the orchids would be removed. So now they keep some of the best areas secret. But you can still see some of the orchids. https://www.floridastateparks.org/pa...hatchee-Strand

Jim, Raleigh Burney was my cousin - how nice to see his name on the internet! In doing some research recently on the Everglades I ran across Captain Steve's Swampbuggy Adventures -- apparently he grew up just down the road from Raleigh and knows the area very well. You might get a pretty good tour from him. https://www.facebook.com/SwampBuggyAdventures
