orchid flowering seasons from around the globe?
i am planing to travel a bit this year and would love to find a few wild orchids along the way. If possible near places where there is cheap accommodation available, (would like to draw and paint).

Well in Jamaica orchids bloom throughout the year and hundreds of species found here and the airfare is pretty cheap to come here. Just to name some species broughtonia sanguinea, broughtonia negrilensis, tetramicra parviflora, some dendrophylaxes and campylocentrums, ionopsis satyroides, ionopsis ultriculaidoes, trichocentrum undulatum, encyclia cochleata, prostechea fragrans, laelia lyonsii, brassavola nodosa, brassavola sublofolia, lepanthese and pleurothalis orchids.

Yes they are there are lots of mountain hikes that you can find lots of orchids especially the blue mountains. There are also couple vendors like hamlyn orchids that have some rare species and one of a kind hybrids you could check them out at their website and their are couple vendors that focus only on jamaican species.

i don't want to buy any, am more and admirer than a grower.
just had a glance around the internet ( not easy, the word orchid invariably brings up resorts...) but it appears jamaica is quite an expensive country to travel in?

One orchid dream destination of mine is Borneo. It would be good as it is near Australia and home to some amazing plants such as Nepenthes pitcher plants, Paphiopedilum rothschildianum which is the world's largest slipper orchid and lots of of other slipper orchids too, the bizarre and beautiful Bulbophyllums, the list goes on.
Of course I am under the impression that Australia has its share of spectacular native orchids, but perhaps another Aussie can elaborate?
In the tropical Americas such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru...basically you name it and there will be oodles of gorgeous native species.

there are nice wild orchids here in Aus and they are accessible, there is quite a distinctive flowering period, around about September.
I was thinking Borneo too... well there are the Nepenthes there as well.... Hoped to get some feedback about a season or if there is none.
Thought maybe i find some locals of some of these regions, sometimes advice to get to wild places is needed....

Darwin is awesome for orchids in September! Most of the orchid shows here happen then, and the orchid nursery I work at is best in September, so much colour!
