Default Goodyera pubescens, North Carolina

Up in scenic route 209 by the Smokey Mountains. August 10th 2014.

Been there a few times, always find them that time of year.

I do a Blueridge parkway trip almost every year in the spring or summer. The NC mountains are filled with orchids.

Here in central and eastern NC we don't seem to have quite as many species. The two most populous being Goodyera and Tipularia which vastly outnumber all other species combined in terms of pure population size/density. Both also happen to have gorgeous foliage.

Yup, when I have gone in the spring I have seen 3-4 species of Orchid in the mountain habitat.
