Tolumnia compressicaulis in Hispaniola
South facing mountain slopes at about 1800 meters above sea level, where the ascending warm moist Caribbean air condensates, are home to this succulent Tolumnia. Here I found it patchy frequent in full bloom. It grows mostly as a twig epiphyte on bushes and small trees, but also sometimes between tufts of gras.
The climate is intermediate to cool, and local peasants grow onions and potatoes, as seen in the first habitat photo.
Seven man made hybrids are registered so far, all with this species as a pollen parent.

Thank you!
Your post really shows how valuable it is to see the 'whole picture' of how and where a species grows.
Since we rarely can duplicate the growing conditions, we have to come to a compromise and and information like this really helps.

Cool, was this DR or Haiti, sorry for the million questions. I have heard that Haiti is deforested and would be very surprised to hear its from there.
