Spiranthes tuberosa
Hi all,
I took a class out to the pine barrens on Long Island last week and came across this little beauty. I didn't have my field guide to the wild orchids of the Northeast so I didn't know exactly what to look for. Wish I had looked at the leaves.
I took a quick picture, so I know its a Spiranthes. Probably S. cernua, but could be S. tuberosa (much rarer). Any help from the experts appreciated, in the mean while enjoy.
Also a nice little Drosera rotundifolia (Sundew) from the bog.

And an interested Oak Apple Gall formed by a wasp when it laid it's eggs on the acorns of an Oak tree.

Wonderful. I was so hoping to see some in the wild this year, but sadly life got in the way.

Hi all, this Spiranthes turned out to be S. tuberosa!! Woo-hoo. I get to slap that one on my life list now.

That's exciting, and they are beautiful photos! Are you teaching a botany course or something?
