Northern California terrestrial ID?
Default Northern California terrestrial ID?

Found in the south bay area of California, specifically the Santa Cruz mountains. Green terrestrial, loses its leaves as it spikes. Any ideas?

There are two good resources for CA native orchids:
Coleman: Wild Orchids of California
The Wild Orchids of California (Comstock books): Ronald A. Coleman: Amazon.com: Books
And also look at the Calflora website.

Looks to me most like Piperia transversa, but you may want to check more carefully than my 2 minutes on Calflora. Calflora also has a county filter, so you can narrow it down geographically.

No idea unfortunately, but I love this plant. Which trail were you hiking on in Santa Cruz? I explore over there pretty frequently and would love to search for one of these.

Not sure what it is, but I'm sure it's one of the ones Ron Hanko has shown pictures of before. He might have more idea what it is.
