I would like to share with you some photos of wild orchids (and posters) I took in my visit to northern Peru in 2010. It would be very nice if you can identify the species for me, thank you.

Just found one more photo. I think it is a Habenaria (?) flowering inside a forest in the vicinity of Gotcha Waterfalls near Chachapoyas, Amazonas Department. Gotcha Waterfalls is made up of two waterfalls with a total height of 761 ft. According to local Peruvians, a lot of orchids are growing on the top of Gotcha Waterfalls. It would be nice to explore the area if time permitted.

Wow, nice Epidendrum, and Habenaria! Just gorgeous stuff. I like the hummer (Marvellous Spatuletail) in the poster too. Too bad its endangered.

Thank you for your suggestion and the link. I have taken a look and found that the plant which I photographed in northern Peru (Amazonas Department) does look like Epi cinnabarinum. Nevertheless, the area where I saw the plant is far away from Venezuela and Mata Atlantica (Atlantic Forests) in [south]-east Brasil.

The Epidendrum I saw in Amazonas Department grows on fully exposed dry slopes at about 2,000 m above sea level. These hillslopes are particularly rich in geophytes (bulbous plants) and cacti. I have also spotted a few other orchids (e.g. Anguloa) and Peperomia aff. asperula.

The hummer is absolutely gorgeous. It reminds me of a Bird of Paradise with its spectacular spatuletail.

Probably you found Habenaria monorrhiza, a widespread species.
Eventually pic 5 is Sobralia rosea. Nina Rach made a great side about Sobralias
