Default Fourth and Fifth Weeks of the Native Orchid Season

Several things before I get to the orchids and the photos:
(1) We've been away most of the summer and it has been a very hectic summer, too. We put about 10,000 miles on our car and my wife has been in Michigan three times, May, July and September to help her father who has not been doing well and who very recently had a bad fall and lay on the floor for half a day before being found.
(2) I've moved all my pictures from Flickr to Ipernity. Flickr changed everything in May and the new format is slow, difficult to use and so I made the switch. The result of that is, however, that all the old photos I posted do not show up in the posts anymore. I apologize for that, but I had too many pictures posted to repost them all. The blog links will still take you to the pictures.

This post covers the fourth week of our native orchid season in the northwest, April 28th to May 4. The season was very early this year and finished early, too. The orchid hunting excursions were to Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands and Larrabee State Park and the orchids we found were Fairy Slippers and Coralroots. The high points of the week were the white Fairy Slippers and a spectacular yellow and white unspotted form of the Spotted Coralroot. We had found one white Fairy Slipper last year but someone dug it up over the winter. We found several other sites this year.

These are the blog posts for that week:

Serendipity and Orchids: Orchid Hunting on Fidalgo and Whidbey Islands and in Larrabee State Park

Native Orchids of the Pacific Northwest and the Canadian Rockies: Fourth Week of the Native Orchid Season - Fairy Slippers, Striped Coralroots and Spotted Coralroots

Native Orchids of the Pacific Northwest and the Canadian Rockies: Fifth Week of the Native Orchid Season - Fairy Slippers, Three Coralroots and Two Rarities

And these are some of the photos:
