I found this showy terrestrial just behind the dunes in sandy secondary grasslands in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, where it flowered at the end of November (springtime in the southern hemispere). The genus is allied to Stenorrhynchos, sometimes also called Gyrostachys, and belongs to the Subtribus Spiranthinae. Pollination by hummingbirds is reported.
I hope that my identification is correct as I am not familiar with the genus.
