Default Orchid Hunting near Mount Rainier

Ten species seen and photographed while day hiking north of Mount Rainier (I'll be adding more pictures the next few days as I get them processed and ready to go).

What beauties!! I knew that was an Erythronium as soon as I saw the picture. Nice find.
You have to come over the Appalachians some day and catch the height of the spring flowers.

Would love to do that, Tindo. We don't get that far east very often, but used to live in New Jersey, though I wasn't into native orchids and wildflowers then, sadly.

Thanks, Jim. It's hard not have a fabulous time hiking in the Cascades, really anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.

How far up did you go? The only place I saw those yellow Glacier Lily was one of the peaks in Glacier National Park. There were all over on a flat meadow high on the mountain where I saw that pink elephant head looking flowers.

Nice bunch of nature shots!

These were photographed at about 5500 feet, but they bloom at much lower elevations. You have to catch them right at snow-melt time. They bloom here from the beginning of May through the beginning of August, at different elevations.
