Wonderful. Interesting about that one that grows in the brush along the tracks and isn't native... makes you wonder doesn't it...

It certainly does make me wonder. I am convinced, though without proof, that it was distributed by the railroad.

Did Goodyera oblongifolia get changed to Orchis? Or is giant rattlesnake orchis another common name?

Beautiful pictures, as always. I wish I had grown up just a bit closer to the coast or at least somewhere with better drainage. My parents' house is a little too far inland and has too much clay for truly happy Madronas.

Nah, it's not in the genus Orchis, that's just one of its common names, which, of course, don't mean very much. The Madronas are another thing I would miss. We're too far inland as well, but we always go to see them.
