Went out today with my buddy to go search the sloughs for whatever we could find....searched some areas we've hiked before but we also wandered around some unexplored areas in the vicinity....saw hundreds of Epi. nocturnum, rigidum, pygma, Ency. cochleata.....none in bloom as they are not in season. Found 2 small growths of Epidendrum strobiliferum on the ground on a branch that fell recently so I strung them up as I do with all the orchids I find on the ground....
The big colony I posted up here last year has died so I put this little guy up in the same area. Hopefully it thrives and repopulates the slough.
We also saw 2 ghosts in bloom, one had a single flower, the second had a double bloom but someone or something clipped parts of the petals off of them both (I know this because I photographed it last week when only one flower was open and the second bud was days away from opening). Last week the one open flower was flawless and just perfect. No so today
All in all we saw 22 of the ghosts I have marked in that slough, and hundreds of other orchids. Not a bad day at all!
I'll post pics taken with my DSLR's when I get them into my computer.
