Only some people pick them because they don't think about the consequences of their actions, or don't think period! I'm not even sure if they know it's an orchid, or a weed. They want a pretty souvenir, and that flower is beautiful and unusual, and they justify it with the reasoning: "there'll be more of them next year, so 1 or 2 (or more) won't matter". It's sad, but short of equipping every plant with a shock device, not much you can do. Most people fortunately are actually quite sensible.

I agree, but it's the stupid few who spoil things for everyone. We are going to a beautiful (now closed) State Park in a couple of weeks to see the Fairy Slippers there. We have to get permission to go in the area and the park has been closed for many years because of the stupidity of those who didn't obey the warning signs and went too near the falls and were killed or injured.

Beautiful flowers ! so delicate and frail looking....yet they thrive and prosper. I am a city boy and we were educated not to touch the flowers in the park or in the sidewalks and islands of the streets...we see them being planted in spring by the parks staff...when in the wilderness ... I don't think we will attempt to even get close to it to sniff...I am talking of the batch of kindergarten pupils of my class(17 of us)...Miss Braden will be very upset with those morons picking flowers in the park!

Another wonderful shot Ron. I find that many people are like children in a toy store and when they see something brightly colored and pretty, they want it. I'm no different but I realize I can go back and see them anytime I want and get more pleasure leaving it for others to see.

Wow. What a beautiful flower, and great photo Ron. It's really shame someone picked them all. It amazes me that people are still that thoughtless.
Cheers.

Thanks for the comments, Dave, and I do agree, only it seems to me that today people know better. Thanks, too, for your comments, Jim. Appreciate everyone taking the time to look and comment.
