Default Epidendrum Nocturnum

Finally went back to the Fakahatchee Strand and seen this one flower. There was hundreds of plants that have set seeds, but this is the only one in flower.

Thats a beauty. I envy that you can go hiking and observe them up close and personal...one of these days I might go on a holiday and hike the trails you frequent...I am sure I can take lots of pictures: the only downside...I dont like snakes and gators...

If ever in the area let me know and I will be glad to give you a tour. Oh by the way I don't like snakes and gators either.

Dave, I have the Florida species of this in my collection from Rueben in Orchids. I am not sure but it seems to be diminutive to the south american species. Can you confirm this?

I've had mine about two years, and this past fall had one bloom on it, though it has gone straight to seed a few times.

I haven't seen any difference between the 2 but this particular flower was on the small side. as you probably know they are self pollinating. getting a perfect flower can be a challenge. It is usually autogamous (flowers self-pollinate) and sometimes cleistogamous (flowers self-pollinate before they open).

Dave, Have you ever hiked in the Addition Lands in NW Broward? I'm looking for info on how to get out out there and interesting hikes - especially from another orchid fan.
