We've been out orchid hunting and I've added a number of post to my blog with text and pictures describing some of our native orchids in their habitats. Here's the Western Fairy Slipper in Washington Park on Fidalgo Island near Anacortes:

Great pictures and info Ron. I love how there is trace of spiderweb on the flower in the first pictures and the shots of the plant in-situ are great.

You probably have the other variety in your area, Tindo, a variety that's a little more colorful than these.

I saw one last summer in the New Jersey Pine barens, but did not have my camera with me. I do remember it was very bright.

The eastern variety has a yellow beard instead of white and no brown markings on the mid lobe of the lip.
