When I photographed these, Tindo, my wife was swatting the mosquitoes on my back and head - it was awful, wet and humid and just a bad year for bugs in the mountains.

Sounds like a day in the swamp. You may not believe me but those new device's called "Off clip on" works great. I swear by it. While taking a lunch break in the Strand I was sitting on a downed tree and witnessed hundreds flying around my legs and feet but was not getting bit. It seems much better then putting "deet" on your body. The only time it hasn't worked, was one time just after dusk (when they go on their frenzy) for about a hour.

Sounds like something I'll have to try, though ordinarily the bugs are not bad - none at all in the lowlands and in the mountains really only in August.
