Default Harrisella porrecta (Leafless)

Another wonderful day in Big Cypress, Many new finds and this Harrisella porrecta was one of the best of the day not including the 12 new Ghost orchids. This little orchid must have look spectacular when in flower. It has 12 recent seed pods.

Nice Dendrophylax porrectus find! That rivals the size of some of the larger plants that I've seen in the central Florida area.

Yeah...there was a molecular study done by some folks from UF...it seems that, according to their statistical gene matching algorithm, Harrisella porrecta is more closely related to some central Dendrophylax species than other outlying species already included in that genus. It also pulled in 'Campylocentrum filiformis' into the Dendrophylax fold...it clearly was never a Campylocentrum, but somehow got stuck in there.

RBG Kew already has this listed as D. porrectus in its checklist of monocotyledons.

Awesome.....that's a big "little" one! Gotta love the mini leafless.

I know of a lot of them in Fakahatchee. I see them everywhere.....can't wait to get some pics in bloom this year.
