Dave,

I have to do some obstacle course thing with my buddies that weekend, otherwise I would love head out with you! Any other dates planned?

Prem,

I was in a particularly awkward position, you could just army crawl across the main trunk if you wanted. Other than that, footTRAX said the water level was higher than normal, so it is hard for me to say whether you could use a ladder or not. My guess is it would be tough, because we were on the side of the oxbow that normally has the deeper water.

I don't think a ladder would work. Plus carrying a good mile thru single track trail would suck.

But Prem,

If it is what it takes to get you down here to shoot with us, I will carry a 20' ladder for you!

You guys should try to find the mythical mythical Vanilla mexicana that grows in that area. I've also heard rumors of Prosthechea cochleata in Martin county as well.

Prem,

Chris did want to look for the mexicana, but I kind of dissuaded him from trying. I spent quite a bit of time looking for that orchid where it had been found but couldn't find it. I have had two park biologists confirm they haven't seen it since the 2004 / 2005 hurricanes. I know there has to be some left, and at very least, some seed that is working on sprouting, but it is going to be a tough find!

I'm sure you can find Prosthechea cochleata along the Loxahatchee river and sloughs within.
