Made it to the main colony just before dark yesterday. Looks like I may have to do yet another reshoot to get what I am looking for, but I was pretty happy with this composition.

Serenoa repens (Saw Palm) is one of my favorites, so the combination to me is just perfect:

The flower spikes were pretty long, but the wide angle close up style exaggerates their length. The base of the plant is hidden under the pine needles next to the trunk of the palm.

Great shots Justin. Can you get any of the plants and how they are associated with the ground/plants?

Also, I see the saw palmetto and pine needles, but everything I read says they like wild rosemary. Can you elaborate more on how they thrive?

I think the Tol Bahamense I bought at the Redlands Orchid Fair is dead.

Finally a good close-up. Taken about 6:45 AM today. Tough orchid to photograph, but probably the most beautiful I've seen in the wild.

This is a crop of the massive plant, which must have over 100 flowers.
