Thought I would share some of my finds today. After the rains quit I headed out to Starkey Wilderness Park here in Pasco County Fl. to search for a few species I have not found in a while. My goal was Listera australis, Cyclopogon cranichoides, and Habenaria quinqueseta or macroceratitis (have not confirmed the last two yet) but one of them is in the moist hardwood swamp (or was), and Corallorhiza wisteriana.
Species found today:
Epidendrum magnoliae var magnoliae
Habenaria odontopetela
Plantanthera flava
Spiranthes odorata
Possible Spiranthes ovalis
Listera australis
I had 20+ Listera plants in an area of about 4'x4' at the base of a large laurel oak tree adjacent to a quickly flooding wetland.
I missed the Oeceoclades that I found several weeks ago. I don't know if the freeze got them or I just was not in the right location.
Anyway enjoy the attached photos. They were taken with my Sony 750 not my new D90. I am having issues with the software not downloading. Error message keeps coming up. Sure would like to get those photos off the camera!
One of the photos attached is of a jelly mold that was absolutely fresh as fresh can be from the rains. I should have taken photos of all the mushrooms and fungi I saw today as well. So many colorful varities "in bloom" with this wet weather.
Oh, you put the pics in a separate thread? Would you like me to combine them for you? Those are great finds by the way. I can't wait to go out hunting orchids myself come spring time.
