They will recover, new growths should start soon for the trees. Just hope we don't get any more days below 32 degrees this year. When your ready to go back out, let me know Mike and I would like to go with you.

You take as long as you need! No hurry! We're heading out tomorrow the 30th with a mission to check out as many ghost's as we can and see how they fared with the cold. I let you know!

Great day! We looked at 12 ghost orchids and they are in excellent shape and putting out new roots on everyone. But the Vanilla took a big hit. We did find some evidence that spring is on it's way with a blooming Bletia purpurea (pine-pink) and new bud of a Dingy Star orchid.

Keep our fingers crossed that there are no more hard freezes. From what I see things are at there most tender and with no over story that could be bad.
If we can get past mid February with no bad things happening all will be well.

Very nice documentation. I know from my ecology of world vegetation book that most tropical and subtropical plants can withstand 3-4 hours of freezing temps due to a natural antifreeze in their system. How long did the area experience temps below 0 degrees celcius?

Hey Tin, Haven't seen for awhile! I don't think the temps stayed below freezeing for more then 5 or 6 hours maybe less. The plants close's to the water seemed to fair much better. Did you still want one of those Corpse plants? They have died back and are ready to be dug up.

I'll take it! In any case, that sounds about right. The heat released by the water would probably keep the orchids near it warmer if not just above freezing for that time.
P.S. I have some Typhonium varians if you want to trade.
