Absolutly stunning!

I love the yellow slipper Cyps like this.

I keep meaning to talk to a UK company that sells Cyps (they have Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens) for growing outdoors in the UK. I'm unsure if my soil conditions would be any good for them though and I would like to plant them out, rather than keep them in pots. They also seem quite expensive.

I really really love the ones like this which have the yellow slipper and dark sepals and flag. var. pubescens seems paler all over, but I still like it.

Anyway, your pic is gorgeous, I just love cyps and should really do something about getting some.

Var. pubescens is extremely variable - I have one with dark chocolate brown tepals, and others that are lighter, and some in-between. However, they do seem to more commonly have lighter colored tepals than var. parviflorum.

I believe that this is var. makasin (Paul Martin Brown).

Rosie, you should just go out and get some - they are supposed to be the easiest of all native orchids to grow and there is all sorts of info on the web about the conditions they need and their culture.

Indeed; I usually lump var. makasin and var. parviflorum into var. parviflorum. The two are difficult to distinguish by appearance, though of course the location of this plant suggests var. makasin.

Wow, another super pic. Our native Lady's Slippers are my reason for loving orchids.
