Madero's Aa is listed as being found up to 4300 meters (14107 feet). Also, check out the in situ photo of Aa hartwegii for a nice perspective shot.

The three hightest I have seen are
-Aa
-Myrosmodes
-Gomphichis
Aa, was common, the other two I found in a single patch growing. No other species around that i could find. A little lower (11000) and you start to find more lithophytic species and Stelis, and Pachyphyllum.

Sheesh, It seems like most of the info out there about Aa is either habitat, plant description, or suggested explanations for the name.

I can find nothing about pollination, or anything that could give a hint about what pollinates it. Most are drab white, brown, and green, so I imagine it has some sort of fragrance. I didnt smell it when I saw it, but it could be pheramonal too. Could be terrestrial insects because the wind is almost always too much for a small insect to fly in. Even the one hummingbird that lives up there spends most of its time on or near the ground.
