Yes, you can grow vanilla if you have the room. They are a vine and if what I heard is correct they don't flower till they get real long.

Vanilla planifolia (i.e. commercial vanilla) can be grown in a house, however, it has to be pretty long (as in tens of feet) before it will flower. As such, it can be challenging to grow in a home environment.

Justin, I have easily 30 pages that need to be added, along with updates to the existing pages (changing from the old HTML format to the new PHP/database driven format).
But I will get to those in time.

Might the Mule Ear be one of the new additions? Or the Florida Oncidium?

Thanks Dave and Prem. Maybe something more suited for when we get a house and plan on living there for a LONG time

I have seen neither of those Oncidiums - the only oncidioids that I have seen in the wild are Tol. bahamensis and Ionopsis utricularoides.

I thought I'd add a pic of the vanilla plant to show it's size. Of all the vanillas I saw at Fakahatchee, none had flowers.

Sweet Tooth, I have a varigated vanilla that my sister in law got for me from the Miami orchid show.
I also see planifolia listed at some sites either as seedlinds, or section of vine cuttings. Just google orchids and vanillas and you should find some.
