Wild rynchostilis in Goa

Great pics of plants in Nature. The 1st pic looks like the Vanilla Vine ( Orchid anyway) but not Rhyn or Aerides.

Vanilla? Thats weird. The genus vanilla is a american one. Well maybe they brought plants from here.

Although vanilla is originated from America, it is heavily cultivated in Asia just like how chocolate, and rubber were brought to Asia and the top producer of this commodities are Asian countries.

Anyway, the 2nd pict is definitely Rhy retusa. One reason is the leaves are long and the stem is very short. Aerides tend to have longer stem. Second is the flower is pendulous while Rhy coelestis gives an upright spike.

It's wonderful to see orchid flowering in the wild.

Great pictures. One observation that I made. It appears that the plants put a lot of energy into growing a strong root system and the leaves are few. I am quite sure that the plants are Rhyncostylis retusa.
