Oh, and I took your advice and picked up a knife today. Only a 4" blade, but it's a start. It is hard enough to remember all of my camera stuff when I head out. I also bought a compass whistle combo., found my other compass and will try to get my GPS runnin' again.
Starting to get real hot out there so make sure you take plenty of water. I buy the 25 oz. water bottles with sport top and freeze them, so I can have cold water for most of the day. I took a silver sunshield for car windsheilds and made a bottle huggy and it make the ice last for hours. I also hiked 3 days in Big Cypress and had ice cold water for 2 and half days with those shields. Just makes your day more pleasurable.

Any tips on carrying a LOT of water, like, five or six gallons? Don't want to spend a fortune on cantenes, those bladder type leather bags, and gallon jugs seems a little too awkward. I was thinking two liter soda bottles. Do they sell multiple gallon "zip lock" bags?

Well if your planning to be out there all day I would get a camel back with a 100 oz. bladder with drink tube, like mountain bikers use. hands free and you can freeze the entire bladder. If you want more water Platypus has a 3 liter one.
Check out this site camp mor I get from them alot.

First, thank you so much for posting the pics above, they are beautiful. I've been searching all over the place for pics of orchids in their natural habitat - I can't thank you enough!! I like the wide-angle too!

Second - my son had one of these: http://www.militarysupplyhouse.com/a...riesus2.htmand he used it often, it lasted forever, and it was great for long treks.

Hope this helps!
