There's only one way! The oringal pods must have come from the Strand or Cuba. But now that they are being propagated though out the world. Now I'm sure there are plants being grown in greenhouse just for there seed pods. It is against the law to remove ANYTHING from the Strand or Big Cypress. Having said that I still would rather see this plant being propagated commercially, it may keep people from taking the plant out of the wild. I have seen the unmistakable signs that a plant has been taken. There are flasks and plants for sale in the US, China and Thailand I personally hope they flood the market so the prices come down and people have no reason to take them out of the wild.

I agree totaly with you that no orchid should be taken from the wild. I know that potchers all over the world take any thing that they can to make a profit from. If the seed pods were taken from a protected area, is it legal to purchase plants propigated from this seed.I understand that this may be the only way to save the spieces.

Great ghosts. It's also cool to hear the joy you get from them.
We had owls in the outer part of my large garage shop this year. They had 5 baby owls and now are gone. They look amazing and even cute, but if you have to hear them SCREAMING and deal with the pooping and the sacks of regurge, well, they become not so cute.

Ok everybody, please excuse my ignorance. But are "ghost orchids" endangered or something? What do the flowers look like? Or are they just extremely rare in their normal geographical range? Just curious.

Yes to all. They live only in the Florida Everglades and Cuba. They can be a challenge to find and Only 1 out of 10 actually bloom and my avatar is a ghost orchid. Check out my gallery for photos. Made famous mostly from a book By Susan Orleans "The Orchid Thief".

That's horrible, I don't blame her for not wanting to go back. We lost a hunting dog once for 10 days and found her. I hope thats the case with her.
