You may encounter catsclaw, sawgrass and lots of sticks and twigs. which can cause scratches and cuts. Thats the reason I wear long cloths.and it helps with the mosquitos too! Your choice

Long clothes are definitely in order then.

What is the orchid hunting season? I mean, is there a certain time when it would be too late to go because nothing would be in bloom anymore? I don't want to wait too long....

Jenn, they are talking about Encyclia tampensis (the Florida butterfly orchid).
Hey Dave, is the one in Corkscrew Sanctuary the one you go see? Or do you know of a different one? I was going to go see that one this weekend, but I was under the understanding that it could be seen from a boardwalk. Do you know anything about that? I don't mind a little hike...I just want to be prepared, if that's the case.

Hi Jasen, Yes you can see it from the boardwalk with binoculars or scope. Last year they had a spotting scope set up for you to see it.
Jen Ghost orchid can bloom into Sept. Oct. but your chances of finding one is much slimmer. July and Aug. Are the best times.

Ok good. I was thinking the end of July or so? Well, I guess the week I am thinking is really the beginning of August.

I hope to plan a trip to the swamp someday soon. I can't imagine how nice it would be to see one the way nature really wants it to be.
