New Orchid Hybrid
Well this is actually pretty sick news. I just found out after registering my new orchid hybrid with the Royal Horticultural Society that they’re naming the cross after me.
Suara Rick Beverly
(Epi. cordigera var rosea X Dialc. Controversy)
So it’s a cross between Epidendrum X Caulathron X Laelia X Cattleya). Does anyone here have any resources so I can get this mericloned? My usual cultivator is actually retiring, so I don’t know if I will be able to get that process started. If I can mericlone it, it will be labeled as:
Suara Rick Beverly ‘Valentine’s Gift’
So how do I get a photo uploaded on here? I’m doing this on my iPad. I can try posting on Facebook instead, if I can’t get it uploaded here.
There we go, I was finally about upload a photo of it. What do you think?

No offense, but that post is a bit disingenuous. The RHS does not assign the names of hybrids, the applicant does, and The RHS accepts or rejects it.
Naming it after yourself is fine, though.

My photos reside on my computer/iPad/phone in Photos. When I want to post a picture, I do it as an attachment. Click "Manage attachments"(below the posting window) which will allow you to "browse" to the location of the picture and open it. Then you can upload and place it in the post. Hope this helps.
Hope to see you and your lovely hybrid at the show this weekend. I am a member of DVOS.

Orchid Origins will be able to help you with mericloning.

Pretty flower. Don't stop with the crosses!
It looks like a genus was named after you : Suara. They use "ara" for every new genus, usually added after your last name. I know because I also have a genus named after me 😀
You could of course self your bloom, that may take longer than a mericloning and lead to much variation

Got any recommendations for Mericloning?
Heck I may need a new cultivator, the one I've been going to for years is retiring, so I need to see if there are any local flasking services nearby. I'm not too keen about sending my seedling to Thailand. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

I agree. The applicant writes down a couple of choices in the application form - eg. first choice and second choice. So the hybrid grex name will be after one of those two choices, which is linked to the applicant only. So the RHS didn't 'name the orchid after the applicant'.
Even the genus name is not automatically named by RHS.
Very nice and interesting flower.

To be clear, it is the genus that was named after the poster, not the grex.

I'm thinking that if a genus is named by somebody, then it's going to be likely that the grex associated with that first lot would probably also be named by that somebody too, right?
Just asking only!
