Yeah, it kinda makes me wish I had an orchid friend here in town. My best orchid friend is in Brazil (which is where I was, visiting him, while my friend was watering my plants), so that's not helpful when I'm out of town. But other than the mishap with the Jewel Box, my friend did a fine job taking care of my plants. She doesn't grow orchids, but she's a gardener, and she knows a lot about horticulture in general. And my instructions were pretty simple: Water the small pots every day, and the larger ones every other day. If you miss a day, don't stress about it, but please don't miss two days in a row. So it's hard to screw that up haha

I see, offered for sale and discussed, 'Dark Waters' AM/AOS, 'Orange' HCC/AOS and 'Scheherezade' AM/AOS. Anybody know whether other clones are still in cultivation?

By the way I suggested to Fred Clarke that he consider a remake with a spotted Guarianthe (Cattleya) aurantiaca. He said he has a good Anzac........

These are one tough cookie. This was one of my first orders from the internet. It blooms every year for me even if I don't take as good care of it. Mine is about to bloom also. I am keeping mine in one piece for now so I will have to see how long. I have found some bulb terra cotta pots I will pot it up to, maybe this spring or the next one. It grows like a weed. I think I need a Dark Waters. I have never heard of any others but those 3 es.

Oh my gosh, I was just at the Missouri Orchid Society annual show at the botanical gardens in STL earlier today, and I saw a clone of Jewel Box that I'd never seen before. I can't remember what it was called tho, and it was in a display, not for sale. The flowers were red and just starting to open, so it was hard to tell, but I felt like it was inferior to the two common red clones by far. This is the only time I've seen any other clone than the ones you mentioned. I took a couple pictures, and I've attached them here.

JScott, contact the orchid society and tell them where the display was. They can probably tell you who put it together, and how to contact them. I bet they can tell you the cultivar name. I suspect a few people there would realize a clone other than the 3 best known would be very unusual.

It was in the conservatory, not in a society display, so I think that it is a plant owned by Missouri Botanical Gardens. But I didn't read your post about other clones until after I had come home from the show. If I had read it before, I would have made a greater effort to remember the name of the clone haha. But I'm sure that somebody at the gardens could tell me what it is called.
