First bloom on Laeliocattleya "Amethyst Star"
I bought this back in March, and it has finally bloomed. It's my first cattleya-type orchid, so I'm very excited! But I can't get an accurate photo of the color--with one camera, it looks too blue and with my other camera it looks too pink, despite adjusting the settings, white balance etc. The third photo is altered to try and show more what my eye sees. Regardless, I'm very pleased with the flowers, and the plant is sending up a second flower spike, so the blooms should last for awhile.

That's a very nice example of that cross. The color and form are not always quite so pleasing. Capturing the correct color in photos is often a challenge, compounded by the variability of the monitor display as well as the digital image.
It would be better to write the name in standard form, Laeliocattleya Amethyst Star (no quotes) or simply Cattleya Amethyst Star in current registration. Using the quotes calls into question whether you are certain of the name or it can be confusing compared to the single quotes used for a cultivar name rather than a cross name.

Thanks--I didn't know that. That's definitely the right name!

Thanks! Yes, I know what you mean. I'm more attracted to the "star" shape of some of these hybrids, which I think is that Laelia influence.
