Here is a cure....grow many orchids so that your attentions aren't fixed on any particular one... Besides, orchids generally bloom once or twice a season. Is not much you can do about it. You are hoping the blooms would overlap from one orchid to another.

I'm going to an orchid show in a few hours. You have just provided my irrational side of the brain with the perfect argument for going on a spending spee!

the oldest sheath has the buds almost at the top ready to burst thru! and the new sheath has bud shadows just showing!

I too have a first time bloomer that I bought as a bag baby and is blooming for the first year, though had false sheaths for 2 consecutive years. I have 4 flowers coming. Seriously, I am so afraid that the spikes will break, or the kitten will decide they are toys! I know what you are saying about impatience.

my kitten is such a pain, too! all the cats love it out there, but little widdie is a monster! she still chews, but she stays off the main bench, I hope! she has so many ferns and stuff to entertain her on the floor and bottom shelf, I hope she stays off the main bench...I have found that keeping the pots together in those nursery 'flats' like they sell plants in, helps. she cant knock things over easily, so I think that discouraged most of her nonsense...there isn't much room for padding over the plants either....

I always stake my buds, usually there are only 2 or 3 to worry about, but 5! I will probly use a couple sticks, and tie each one best I can....these are big 'floof' cattleyas, so it should be interesting....

I think staking and tying buds would be a good topic for discussion on here!
