Default C. Princess Clemenine x Blc. SunCoast Sunspots

This came from SVO in December 2015 in a 3" / 7.5cm pot. It is SVO 5069, C. Princess Clementine 'SVO' AM/AOS x Blc. SunCoast Sunspots 'SVOII' AM/AOS. The flowers have been open 3 days. Today they have a faint, sweet Cattleya scent now that it is warm and the sun hit them. The plant came with old, dry sheaths, so I don't know whether this is its first bloom.

The plant is an extremely vigorous grower. It has been pushing leads since arrival. I moved it into semi-hydroponic culture soon after arrival; it did not turn a hair. I don't know how big it will get. This is the catalog description from SVO: "Princess Clementine is a primary hybrid between (C. aclandiae x C. dowiana). It is a large flower with a surprising 5 blooms per stem, a rather high count considering the parentage. The SunCoast Sunspots (Blc. Waianae Leopard x Slc. Jungle Elf) is the largest flowered yellow with red spots yet awarded. From the Princess Clementine it is expected that the flower size will increase and the SunCoast Sunspots will add color and spots. I expect these flowers will be nicely fragrant too. This is one of those ‘very interesting’ hybrids, a bit variable in flower color but, some will be great!"

It only gets a few hours of morning sun through a window, and is in bright shade the rest of the day.

The last photo, of a plant in a basket, is one belonging to a member of our orchid society. It was in bloom at our July 21st meeting this year.

There was a recent thread with photos of other plants:

They look so different! It is great that you can compare them with someone from your OS.

These are interesting all the different color forms. I'm loving it and there are so many on this forum. Mine is going to bloom again already, I can't believe it. My problem is, I am having to cute the new leaves out of the surrounding sheath or what ever you call it. The last blooming I only had to one of the growths. This time it has 3 growths and I had to all 3. Two are going to have blooms and I'm not sure about the third one. Maybe I'm not watering it enough?

Are the regular leaves wrinkling? I don't understand part of what you wrote - are you cutting the sheath (like a green envelope) around the flower buds? Why are you doing that?

Mine flowered from a green sheath. I have it in semi-hydroponic culture. It sucks the reservoir dry in 2-3 days.

Cool, would have thought that the more sun the better. But you showed that's not so. Congrats.
