Default Dendrobium moschatum

I had always wanted one of these, but forgot about it after I had divested myself of orchids. I stumbled across one recently and snagged it because I knew I had wanted one, but couldn't remember why.
Now I know why.

Dendrobium moschatum

The infloresense reminds me of a Den. dalhousianum [pulchellum], but smaller. The D. dalhousianum is a huge plant with large flowers.
I like the coloration of these flowers.

The lip forms a slipper

The best part is its fragrance. It is a very nice musky odor. The name moschatum is in reference to the musky fragrance. You'll think I'm a whack job, but it reminds me of the smell of a freshly bathed and dried ferret. Only someone that has kept ferrets will know what I mean. I like it!

I had said that I was going to remount this lower down, but never got around to it. After it finishes blooming and shows signs of new growth, Then I'll remount it where I don't have to climb a ladder to smell it.

The flowers look delicate but I know it is sturdy and the plant can withstand abuse. How lucky that you just have to mount it outdoors and not worry about frost.

I have found that to be true of almost all of my Dendrobiums.
They can actually take a terrific beating and still rebound back from it. Although, the worse the beating the more slowly they come back.
