Chysis bractescens bloom
This Chysis bractescens started a spike in April off a new growth and peaked about a month ago (Mid May) It had a faint musky smell. First time bloomer. This one seems to like it in the garage where its nice & cool.

I grow it in a north facing window in my garage all year. It is under a light (2 t5 fixture) as well. I read Chysis likes cool and lowish light. This one did take a while to get established. I have it in a plastic pot with a mix of lava rock, fir bark, sphagnum moss and tree fern chunks. I would think it would do fine in NJ.

I bet you can. It tends to sprawl and grow sideways, so people often tie the pseudobulbs together to keep it upright, occupying less space. I got one in early December 2015. It was supposed to be blooming size, but it didn't bloom on the new growth. It has made a large new pseudobulb, so I hope it blooms next year. I am growing it in a plastic pot with large-chunk bark, and I don't let it stay dry very long. It is clearly happier with higher humidity.

Such a cute little flower. I'm seeing if it will let me post this time. I tried before.

The teeth on that Labellum are so weird!
