The other half's cousin lives in hawaii and was showing me all the phaius and schoms and catts growing freely all over her yard, it's insane for us mainland folk! She had a schom growing 20ft up into a palm trunk all long spikes and blooms, you people are spoiled out there!
I picked up a Schomburgkia last fall at a farmer's market.
I mounted it in a tree and have been waiting for it to show signs of a new growth.
The last week or so it has been doing so.
I can hardly wait for it to reach blooming, hopefully next fall.

I got the cutting for mine from an acquaintance that has several growing on his lot.
Some were fair sized vines growing across the surface of the ground looking more like a root.
It looked to me as if they were looking for a new tree to grow upon.
But, I have never seen them growing anywhere else that could be interpreted as being feral.
I took several cuttings and tried to root them.
All but 2 of them died.
Their growing ends have been very sensitive to being handled.
I tried routing them more efficiently up the tree only to have the growing end die on me.
It didn't kill the plant.
But, it did set it back quite badly.
