Default Dendrobium vexillarius orange

Dendrobium vexillarius orange - cold growing species from PNG, grown inside, using only RO water. I purchase this plant with the buds, so can't take any credit for them, only for the pictures :-) It will be grown inside during the spring and summer, and than outside during late fall and winter when our outside temperatures drop to intermediate - cool nights.

Very nice, Tommy! I also got a couple from Far East Agriculture this week. I put it in 62F (19C) day and 50F (10C) night. Baker's culture sheet says 68-74F max and 46-50F min. It would be interesting to see how warm this species can handle. What is the approximate temp at your place?

naoki, from the grower I know these can handle easily up to 80F days, preferring under 78F days, and like cold nights between 50-60F. My apartment is set up 76F days and 68F nights. I grow other vexillarius plants without any problems, but blooming is tricky for me. That's when the winter helps tremendously, especially if it is like the past one, when we have huge fluctuations in temps, having days in upper 60's to mid 70'sF and nights in 50's or low 60's, sometimes in 40's :-) They love it outside during the winter!

Thanks for the info, Tommy. It is amazing that they can handle 68F night. I have thought that even a month of 68F night would cause serious decline to these species, but maybe it is tougher than we have assumed. You are a zone pusher!

naoki, the grower told me that their greenhouse gets to 76F for many months, and they do not mind, the most important is night temp drop. And yes, I do grow Telipogons in the same conditions for past year, not only they grow like crazy, new roots and growths all over, but they also send spikes and produce buds, the only issue is not having huge night temperature drop and the buds are blasting - but I am testing one in the fridge overnight, so we shall see:-)
