Default 12 Months of Orchids in Bloom

Well for the first time in my life I can honestly say I have had at least one orchid in bloom every month for the past year. Some were bought in bud, others bloomed under my care. Either way, here are my Orchids of the Month for 2014.

January
Unknown Phalaenopsis

February
Unknown Phalaenopsis

March
Vanilla planifolia

April
Unknown Oncidium

May
Bletilla striata

June
Unknown Phalaenopsis

July
Unknown Vanda (Pachara Delight?)

August
Paphiopedilum Prime Child

September
Oncidium Sharry Baby 'Velvet Maroon'

October
Unknown Vanda (Pachara Delight?)

November
Bulbophyllum medusae

December

Paphiopedilum Odette's Vision

Here's hoping for an even better 2015!

I like your orchid a month post. Nice orchids and I'm going to emulate your idea this year.

Your photos tell a good success story. I remember an article in the American Orchid Society Journal when I first started growing orchids about selective buying that would enable you to have flowers throughout the year. Looks as if you have purchased the right plants.

Thank you! I want to streamline my collection of about 30 plants even more. I think my next challenge is to have a different kind of orchid in bloom every month and collection size of 25 plants or less.

Which one? All three are different plants. The January one is my favorite. The petals are smaller but look like fine porcelain.

Well tbh, I was making a joke about the ubiquity of large white unknown phals... But the one I have looks closest to the one from June. In all honesty I thought they were all the same one, but now that I look closer I see that they are different, lol.

Good luck in keeping your collection at 25 plants. Orchids can be addictive. My goal was similar to yours but I now have at least 500 plants and still wanting. My appetite is a little less vigorous now but I still have a compulsion to buy.

I just don't have the time or resources to house my "dream collection." Believe me, if I were to come into a handsome fortune, I would have all the orchids. All of them.
