Same plant, different flower colors

Aliceara Donald Halliday 'Smile Eri' is one of my favorites. When the flower first opens, it's white with a little yellow and rust in the throat. After it ages for several days, it has the charming habit of developing purple edges. At least that's what happened the first two years I bloomed it, and I was quite happy with it.

Last year I grew it in brighter light and the flower "exploded" in a purple color so much so that I could hardly believe it was the same plant.

It's sending up a new spike now and I'm going to grow it in bright light again. Either way, it's a keeper.

Wow! That is a difference. I had that happen to me with a Tolumnia. I was sure it was a different plant, but it wasn't. Yours is nice both ways.

Pigments can develop differently in different conditions, with light levels and temperature being the two "biggies".

For example, cool and bright will always allow reds to be stronger.
