Default My Orchids in Bloom Update

I've had quite a few throwing out spikes and flowers through the last few weeks.
So, I've been waiting for the last of them to finally open up at least some flowers.
They are all in bloom right now and look to be for a while.

This yellow Catt hybrid was the first to open up.

I've posted a pic of this Latouria when it opened its first flower.
Here it is with all of its flowers open>

This was the second to open its flowers.
There were two but one aborted.
I do not remember this Catt hybrids name.
But, I think I was told something like Bronze Boy.

These orange Epi's are putting out tassels in a couple of locations.

this yellow Catt was the second orchid I brought in after moving in.
I mounted it on a dead tree fern stump.

It seems to be the season of the yellow Catts.
I like the frilly lip and petals on this one.

Then, the Oncid-Odontos are throwing out some spikes also.

This purple one is surprising me.
For a while after mounting it, I thought it was going to die.

Then finally, the one I was waiting for to open up so I could post pics.
It has two more spikes developing that should begin opening flowers in a few weeks or so.

And, one of the recent acquisitions from the greenhouse has bloomed, Brs. Little Stars.

Then, while not an orchid this Brom is quite spectacularly in bloom also.

And the Den. Samurai is still blooming.
But, I've posted pics elsewhere a couple of times already.

It's looking as if I'll have many orchids in bloom all at once all year long.
But, I've still gotta get more!

Love all the orchid blooms. Do you know the name of the brom ? I really like the colors in the leaves.

I bought them at a benefit plant sale. I see the same vendor at the major local farmer's market very often. I've picked up several Bromeliads and Tillandsias from them off and on through the last year.

I have no idea as to what that Brom is named.
They sell all their plants at the zoo's benefit sale and the markets as NoIDs.
I've never seen a name on anything they sell.

The leaves are very thin, smooth and soft compared to other Broms.
The coloring and texture of the leaves is what caught my attention.
The bright red quill is a major bonus that I was not expecting.

NOTE:
The white Oncid is an Oncidium Speckled Spire 'Snowflake'.
It is a very popular locally bred hybrid.
In my yard it's a NoID.
It is fragrant if I remember right.
I should know in another couple of days or so.

Also, while I haven't put a photo up here, my Psychopsis Mendenhall ‘Hildos’ has one blossom open right now. If it had 2, one on each spike, I'd have probably put a pic up for it too.

You are certainly having fun in the tropics (although I read you can grow big rhubarb in Alaska). Hilo is on the wet side of the Big Island, so do you ever have to water any of your mounts or can you always count on nature.

They can grow huge vegies in Ak.
They enter some monster cabbages in the Palmer Fair competition.
But, I understand that what they gain in size they lose in palatability.

Rhubarb has never been one of my favorites.
Unless I'm backed into a corner, I always pass on strawberry- rhubarb pie.
Big rhubarb would never have kept me in Ak.

Yeah, I'm on the windward side, the high rainfall area, about 150"/yr.
We do get dry periods and wet periods that can last for 2 weeks or more.
Right now we've been in a very wet period for the last week or two, heavy rains every night and showers [sometimes heavy] off and on every day.
Sometimes I need to supplement for the mounts.
Sometimes I need to protect them from the rains.

The tree mounts have to deal with whatever they get.
The Equitant Oncidiums are tree mounted and not doing very well, too much rain for them.
Everything else seems to be doing well.

Spectacular! My Speckled Spire 'Whisp' just opened a few days ago as well! But your 'Snowflake' has darker spots. It is wonderfully fragrant!

As much as they look alike, I assume they smell alike also.
I find its scent hard to describe.
Right now I'd call it a "spicy baby powder" fragrance.
Ask me tomorrow and I'll probably be calling it something else.

I stop and stick my nose in mine every time I walk by it.
It has a clump of large Bromeliads with sawtooth edged leaves around the base of its tree.
They eat my shins and calves up as I sidle up to it.
A true pain-pleasure experience.
