Nice Color Change
If you don't like red just wait a while and you will have orange and a little later some yellow.
This one is called Otarra Hidden Gold.

Hidden Gold - One of the most evocative and literally true names of any orchid. Stunning to look at, and you obviously grow it well.
But Otaara? That one always was a problem to spell, I've seen Otara, Otarra, Ottarra, Otaarra, all from vendors at one show about 10 years ago. But Otaara is (or was) correct, with 2 a before 1 r. Or Claudehamiltonara is the official nothogenus for this one now - quite a mouthful to say, painful to look at, but not hard to spell.

No matter how it is spelled, it is awesome and you grow it very well.

Thanks for the info. I knew there was a name change but for my personal use I still prefer the old names.
I wonder who Claude Hamilton is or was.

It's great that you have flowers of all three colors at one time!
What an interesting one!

Claude Hamilton is an orchid grower and breeder, Hamlyn Orchids in Jamaica. He has registered at least 117 hybrids, many genera, heavy on the Broughtonia intergenerics like Otaara (but not Hidden Gold) and other heat loving types.

I don't think it can ever be wrong to use the original name at the time of registration for general use, a nod to history, in this case Otaara. And I understand the reluctance to change. But if a hybrid of similar ancestry is registered today it can't be Otaara, but they can both be Claudehamiltonara.
RHS may have made a mess of the process of translating science into horticultural usage, but they unequivocally have the right to make that mess official if they want to. Eventually it is simpler to go along.

Thanks again for the information. I guess I knew who Claude Hamilton was but didn't know that I knew because only the name Hamlyn Orchids was familiar. I use to be a big fan of Cattleytonias and Broughtonias and frequented his web site to view photos and read about his hybridizing work with Broughtonias. I have a Broughtonia sanguiena alba that I got from him in 1990 and it still on the same 4 x 4 cork that it was on when I bought it.
