A couple recent blooms
Geez, I really need to make an effort to get on here regularily again. Research has taken over my life, and there is limited time left for orchids.
I find it a bit ironic that in the years where I was super active here I was dying for better photo gear, but couldn't afford it. A year ago I got a dslr and some lens (including a very nice macro lens) but hardly have time for the orchids anymore...
Anyhow, here is Masdevallia Selphi Orion and Oncidium ornithorhynchum (now finally rectified to Onc sotoanum I believe). The photo of the Onc is quite poor, but I never had time to shoot some more before the blooms started dropping..
I should take a photo of my Psychopsis too, but it lives on my desk at work. I've had it 3 years and each year it puts out a spike, so now it's up to 3 simultaneously blooming spikes. I have a few other things in spike at home, but the collection isn't doing to great lately, the mealie bugs came back worse than ever. I've been battling the damn things since mid 2008...

What kind of research are you into? Are you earning a degree or independent work?

Hi Tindo! Nice to see that you're still around. 
As you would say in the US, I'm a grad student. I'm working towards my PhD (though we are decently paid employees, and not students here in the Netherlands). I'm in plant-insect interactions, basically studying plant 'self defense'. More specifically, how different attacking insects modify the odor blend that plants produce which is used by beneficial insects to locate the 'bad' insects. This is very fundamental research that can hopefully, one day, help create crops that better attract beneficial insects (so less pesticides)

great shots! and great blooms too! I love your research topic, we need more ways to eradicate those pesky bugs, and natural ways are the best....BUT if I were battling mealies for 5 years, I would pull my hair out! and break out the high powered guns and zap them with systemics...I know it is an awful thing to do, but your plants will love you for it...they are sucking the blood right out of your orchids! just put the plants in a big plastic yard bag and spray em good every two weeks for a couple months, then follow up with a spray every month for 6 months and you should have them GONE! you can mix the systemic with an insecticidal soap for a 'spreader-sticker'....welcome back, and I am glad you made it out of the soup kitchens, lol....
