I saw lots of growth here in Austin when the temps were 100+ degrees for 40 days with no ill effects to the orchids. The blooms, however were VERY misshapen and weird looking! Was it that hot in the greenhouse or in the Houston area?

it was 104 in the greenhouse. its really green right now. they get a lot of water. if they use it they get more.

Stays around 95 to 98 degrees from around 2pm till about 5pm. Drops to 77- 79 at night. Really stikky as humidity jumps up from the hot grass cooling down like a green steaming carpet. Its the stikky that causes your plants trouble if you arent watching them carefully.
I'm getting the 20 degree diurnal spread though and have been watering very late in the evening. Yah we all say not to water them at night but the water they get they use it up. I use a very open mix also so it doesnt stay overly sopping wet too long. In fact nothing stays sopping wet but the phals . Phals like hot and sopping wet. An early morning watering before sunrise is good too as it mimics the morning dew.

I had one new growth on my giant Lc. C G Roebling in the past 2 years with no sheath. Of course its been beat to crap but This summer its put out 3 new growths and 3 sheaths. We see if they flower and if they are scrunched and weirdly shaped. I will keep that in mind. Always as to why a flower did or didnt live up to expectations. I just trying now to keep the temps down below a 100. Its all opened up so all its got is a roof and they aint getting beat down by hail again dammit Jim!!!
