Default Playing catch-up...sharing my blooms.

Hello to my Orchid Board friends,

Life has has kept me busy and I haven't had a chance to post bloom photos since February. Thought I take the time to play catch-up and share some today. Enjoy! Photo Catch-Up - a set on Flickr

Thank you. I used to call that one "Big Momma" when it was big and filled out a 15 in pot. There are pictures in my photo gallery of what she looked like back then. I delayed repotting the large specimen and darned near lost her to root rot year before last. Wound up with lots of rootless divisions and wonder of wonders they all survived. I don't know the name of this beautiful fragrant hybrid. Once upon a time it had a tag and I can only remember George King "Serendipity", but I think the plant was a hybrid of Serendipity and something else??? Anyway, this plant has always grown well and it's a reliable bloomer. She's one of my favorites.

Nice! I remember a "Big Momma" - but didn't remember the fabulous color and size! No wonder she's a favorite of yours!

The plant was a gift that was given to me a few months after, my father, George, passed away. I remember the George King 'Serendipity' part because of the circumstances, but not much else. It was a long time ago. A grower told me that it could possibly be a seedling Serendipity that took on different characteristics. The petals seem less round than a Seredipity. They kind of sparkle when sunlight hits them. From what I gather, the Serendipity is a November bloomer. My plant/plants have always bloomed around February with the exception of one time, in November, when the large plant had a single bloom. The blooms emit a lovely fragrance from mid morning until about 2:00 p.m.
